Faculty Recital to Feature Saxophonist Andy Wen

The UALR Department of Music will present associate professor Andy Wen’s faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The recital will feature Wen on alto saxophone and John Krebs of Hendrix College on piano, and will include works from Paule Maurice, Ryo Noda, Ed Martin, L.A. Logrande, and Sy Brandon.

Wen is an associate professor of saxophone and clarinet at UALR, a founding member of the Arkansas Saxophone Quartet, and plays Principle Saxophone in the Little Rock Wind Symphony. He earned his Doctorate of Music Arts from the University of Georgia studying saxophone with Kenneth Fischer and clarinet with Theodore Jahn. Wen’s performances have taken him to more than twenty states, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Japan, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, and Thailand. He has performed concertos with bands and orchestras, solo recitals, and chamber concerts, and has premiered three concerts and released a CD, Apparitions, with Emeritus Recordings.

John Krebs has earned degrees in piano performance from Northwestern University, the University of Illinois, and the University of Maryland. Krebs’s teaching career has taken him to Central Missouri State University, Prince George’s Community College, and Luther College before landing him at Hendrix College where he has taught for the last twenty years. He has given performances in Canada, Germany, Iceland, Slovenia, Scotland, and Thailand.
