UA Little Rock is highlighting some of its outstanding transfer students in celebration of National Transfer Student Week, Oct. 18-22.

Coyunna Jones is a mass communication major and student-athlete who transferred from Indian River State College.

What is your hometown?

I’m from Chicago, Illinois.

Why did you decide to transfer to UA Little Rock?

I decided to transfer to UA Little Rock due to a swimming/diving scholarship. I recently transferred from Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida. I was also on a diving scholarship there as well.

What is your major, and what do you plan to do after graduation?

My major is Mass Communications and Journalism. After graduation, I plan on continuing my education at Louisiana State University where I will be studying Sports Journalism.

What is special about being a transfer college student?

Being a transfer student is very special because you are exposed to different cultures.

Why did you choose UA Little Rock?

I chose UA Little Rock because this university felt like home.  Also, my teammates made me feel so welcomed. There are so many opportunities in my field.

What opportunities have you gotten through UA Little Rock that you might not have had otherwise?

The opportunities that I have gotten through UA Little Rock are internship opportunities. I had the opportunity to work for the Athletics department with camera work. I am also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I am currently at UA Little Rock Public Radio where I am getting on-air experience.

Some of my opportunities are attending collegiate sporting events; gathering information, writing coverage, and conducting interviews; covering sports-related news on games, events, teams, schools, athletes, and fans; interviewing players for pregame and postgame coverage; attending press conferences, pursuing news stories, and reporting breaking news without bias; and working with sports editors and videographers to generate story ideas and feature articles.
