‘Struggle of the South’ Mural Attracts Grant
The UALR Gallery program has received a $30,000 grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities for a project to photograph and produce a film about the mural by Joe Jones – “The Struggle of the South” – in an effort to rescue and restore the work.
Heifer Exec Celebrates Women’s Day March 8
Elizabeth Bintliff, interim vice president of Heifer International’s Africa Program, will help UALR celebrate International Women’s Day Thursday, March 8, with a lecture titled “Women and Development.”
Film, Discussion Looks At Female Athletes
A screening of “Playing Fair: The Media Image of the Female Athlete” and a discussion of female athleticism will be presented at 6 p.m. Friday, March 2, in UALR’s Donaghey Student Center Room D.
Student Lands Funds for Church History
Adora Curry-Nicholson, a UALR graduate student in the Professional and Technical Writing program, has received a $2,000 Heritage Grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
Submit Courses for New Race, Ethnicity Minor
The UALR Department of History will soon offer a new minor in Race and Ethnicity. Faculty are invited to submit courses they would like added to the minor’s list of elective classes.
Apply for Washington Internships by Feb. 28
Applications are now being accepted for summer internships at The Washington Center, the largest independent, nonprofit academic internship program in the country. The deadline to apply is Feb. 28.
Music Chair Co-Edits Book ‘Blackness in Opera’
A new book about how black culture is portrayed in opera, co-edited by UALR Department of Music chair Dr. Karen Bryan, is scheduled to be released March 1 by the University of Illinois Press.
Garnett Elected President of Women in French
Mary Anne Garnett, chair of the Department of International and Second Languages Studies and professor of French at UALR, has been elected president of Women in French (WIF). WIF is an allied organization of the Modern Language Association whose purpose is to promote scholarship among women authors writing in French.
UALR Theatre Creates Repertory Experience
The UALR Department of Theatre Arts and Dance will present “Criminal Hearts,” by Pulitzer Prize nominee Jane Martin, and “Visiting Mr. Green,” by Jeff Baron, in alternating performances from Wednesday, Feb. 22, through Sunday, Feb. 26, in the University Theatre in the Center for the Performing Arts.
Video Contest Seeks UALR Experiences
Students and instructors will get the chance to document their experiences at UALR through “Wired Tight,” a video contest that will run periodically throughout the semester. The first deadline for submissions is Tuesday, Feb. 21.
