COE Grad Named One of ’20 to Watch in 2012′

Henry AndersonHenry Anderson, a graduate of the UALR College of Education’s Educational Administration Program, has been named to the “20 to Watch in 2012” list published by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s Three Rivers Edition.

According to the Pulaski County Special School District site, Anderson, the first-year principal at Jacksonville High School, is making improvements at the school to raise student achievement.

Article Provides Tools to Science Teachers

Dr. Karina R. Clemmons, assistant professor of teacher education, published an article with Colleen Sheehy, assistant professor of teacher education at the University of Indianapolis, in the latest issue of The Science Teacher.

The authors provide three engaging projects science teachers can use to help students develop environmental consciousness and global awareness using young adult literature and technology.

The journal is a publication of the National Science Teachers Association.

AP Scores Jump, Opening Doors to College

Students participating in the three-year-old Arkansas Advanced Initiative for Math and Science Inc. (AAIMS) effort to increase Advance Placement (AP) scores posted a 32 percent overall increase in qualifying scores in math, science, and English this year.

UALR Hosts STEM Starter Summit Tuesday

Legislators, policy-makers, STEM experts, teachers, administrators and university professors will gather for a summit Tuesday, May 17, sponsored by UALR to discuss Project STEM Starters, a research and development program aimed at developing more inquiry-based science instruction in Arkansas elementary schools. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering Mathematics.
