Dr. Daniel Littlefield, director of UALR’s Sequoyah National Research Center, will be among the presenters at the inaugural Festival of Ideas, a day-long celebration Saturday, Sept. 22, of the ingenuity and achievements of 50 of the most influential people in Arkansas.

A newly published book co-edited by UALR English professor Zabelle Stodola has revived an important work on a bitterly contested war against the Dakota tribe in Minnesota.

“Anticipation of the Future: Contemporary American Indian Art,” an exhibit from Sequoyah National Research Center’s Dr. J.W. Wiggins Native American Art Collection at UALR, opened Friday, Feb. 11, at the Arkansas Studies Institute at 401 President Clinton Avenue. The show will run through April 30.

At 6:30 p.m., the Arkansas Educational Television Network will re-air its new documentary “The Long Walk,” detailing the removal of the Choctaw tribes to Indian territory in what became Oklahoma. The Choctaw were first to walk what became the Trail of Tears. It first aired on Friday, Nov. 19.

UALR’s Sequoyah National Research Center will exhibit a collection of Native American nativity scenes during the holiday season in the Dr. J.W. Wiggins Native American Art Gallery at the center in Suite 500 at UALR’s University Plaza.

Amanda Paige and Fuller Bumpers, both UALR alumni, and Sequoyah National Research Center director Dr. Daniel F. Littlefield Jr. will sign copies of their newly released book, “Chickasaw Removal,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the center in Suite 500, University Plaza.

UALR’s Sequoyah National Research Center initiated a new American Indian Student Internship Program this summer, providing research work experience for three members of the Yupik, Cherokee, and Seneca-Shawnee tribes.

An exhibit of the traditional native American of Oklahoma opens with a reception at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at the J.W. Wiggins Native American Art Gallery at UALR’s Sequoyah National Research Center for a 17-day run.

UALR has received a $202,000 grant from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council to complete work on the Trail of Tears Park on the south end of the Coleman Creek Greenway.

UALR undergraduates display their creative and research endeavors from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the Undergraduate Research Expo at the Donaghey Student Center’s Ledbetter Hall.
