Public Safety urges residents to turn in unused meds April 27

The UALR Department of Public Safety is once again participating in the National Take Back Initiative, which encourages area residents to bring unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications and dispose of them in a safe and ecologically sound way.

Micro-Grants Help Smog-Eating Concrete, Garden Projects

At first glance, a garden irrigation system and smog-eating concrete have little, if anything, in common. But both concepts aim to incorporate sustainability into academics, each winning this year’s micro-grant competition at UALR. The ideas will now become full-fledged and fully funded projects thanks to the Sustainability Committee.

Bowen School Hosts Food Policy Symposium

The Arkansas Journal of Social Change and Public Service will host its inaugural symposium event, “Food for Thought: A Symposium Devoted to Food, Policy, and Community in Arkansas,” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Friday Courtroom at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law.

Campus Earns Sustainability Bronze

UALR has achieved Bronze Status in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Reporting System. The achievement recognizes such initiatives as the Farm2Work program and the restoration of the Coleman Creek area.

Ecology Group Awards Prof for Service

Janet Lanza, a professor in the UALR Department of Biology, has received the Distinguished Service Citation from the Ecological Society of America. She has served the society for two decades as Book Review Editor of its flagship journal, Ecology.
