Meet Lucy: Arkansas State Police Evidence Dog to Visit UA Little Rock

A specially trained Labrador with a nose for digital evidence is coming to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, offering students a closer look at how K-9s help investigators uncover evidence hidden in electronic devices.
The UA Little Rock Cybersecurity Club will welcome Lucy, an electronic storage detection K-9 with the Arkansas State Police, and her handler, Special Agent Amber Kalmer, from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Room 422 of the Engineering and Information Technology Building.
Lucy is one of approximately 100 electronic storage detection K-9s in the world and the only one in Arkansas. Although she might look like any other dog, Lucy is trained to detect chemical compounds found in electronic storage devices, including thumb drives and cellphones.
A former Little Rock Police Department K-9, Lucy joined the Arkansas State Police Special Investigations Division in February 2023 with her handler, Kalmer. She assists investigators during search warrants to locate devices that may contain critical evidence and serves as a companion dog for victims during her downtime.

During the visit, students will learn how Lucy is trained, how she works alongside investigators, and how specialized K-9s contribute to cases involving technology and digital evidence.
The event is open to all UA Little Rock students, regardless of major. Learn more about Lucy’s visit to UA Little Rock online.
