Myers Awarded Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship

The Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement has awarded Veronica Tess Myers, a UA Little Rock graduate student, a $500 scholarship through the Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship program.

Myers said she was “very excited to be recognized for the autism advocacy accolades and the efforts I put forth within the community and society as a whole that promote autism inclusion, autism acceptance, and autism empowerment.”

Myers is a well-known advocate for autism and disability rights in Arkansas. She is the founder of Alexander’s Secret, Inc., a nonprofit that helps parents and caregivers of autistic children better advocate and educate their children.

Myers began her college education at UA Little Rock in 2000. She is a single mother to Alexander, who has autism. By 2006, she made the decision to leave college to ensure that Alexander got the education he deserves. She attended Hall High School with Alexander nearly every day for four years.

Myers was able to return to UA Little Rock and graduate with her bachelor’s degree in applied communication studies in 2021. Now she will graduate with a master’s degree in applied communications studies this May.

In a sense, you become your own mentor, guiding and enriching the path of caring for yourself.”
