UALR Graduate Manages Successful Local Restaurant

Stephanie CaruthersStephanie Caruthers, maiden name Toon, began attending UALR in 1986 after graduating from Mount St. Mary Academy. Stephanie was awarded an academic scholarship to UALR prior to enrollment. She began working at Classic Cleaners during the initial part of her college career. Earl Ramsey, Director of the Donaghey Scholars Program, was adamant about Caruthers joining the program. Ramsay even visited her at Classic Cleaners until she agreed.

Beyond her involvement with the academic program, Stephanie pledged Tri Delta during her first semester in 1986. She said, ‚Äútrying to find a place to park, studying in the Donaghey Scholars lounge, and socializing at the Tri Delta house,‚ÄĚ are among her favorite memories at UALR. Also, she recalls several fond experiences with Greek life on campus.

Stephanie began working at Trio’s in 1987 and graduated from UALR in 1990. Trio’s opened in 1986 in Pavilion in the Park as a retail delicatessen that offered salads to go. Trio’s has now expanded to become one of Little Rock’s most successful restaurants. The restaurant is very customer based with an emphasis on hosting generations after generations of families, making Trio’s a tradition for many. Currently, Stephanie serves as a Managing Partner and Director of Catering for the restaurant. She continues to work on recipe development and menu planning for  both the main restaurant and the catering service they offer.

Stephanie has been happily married to Brooks Caruthers, a Hendrix graduate, for almost fifteen years. They have two lovely daughters Audrey, 11, and Celeste, 5. We are delighted to have Stephanie represent UALR’s alumni and very grateful for Trio’s participation in our Taste of Little Rock event. Trio’s was one of several local restaurants that donated their time and food to support the student scholarship fund for the UALR Alumni Association.
