Graduate Certificate in Superintendency
Admission Requirements

  • The candidate to the licensure program must have
  • a master’s degree or equivalent in a related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 (4.0 scale) overall
  • official transcripts of all University work
  • an autobiographical data form
  • three letters of recommendation attesting to leadership qualities and scholarship potential
  • evidence of four years teaching experience

Degree Plan/Program of Study
The program of study includes the following courses that constitute the standards associated with the body of knowledge and the application of appropriate skills and dispositions to be a successful superintendent. These courses are not taken in any sequential order; however, there is a logical sequence that may be beneficial to a candidate’s successful progression through the program. Candidates will be advised by the doctoral coordinator as to the typical sequence of courses, or best individualized progression.

EDAS 8380 Administrative Internship in the Central Office (First Semester)
EDAS 8381 Administrative Internship in the Central Office (Second Semester)
Co-requisite: Exceptional Child Course:
SPED 7301 Foundations of Special Education , OR an equivalent
Graduation Requirements
Requirements for licensure include a minimum of 24 hours. The applicant may transfer up to twelve hours of comparable graduate administration courses taken within five years of program admittance at a regionally accredited institution. The culminating experience is the candidate’s portfolio presentation to program faculty and an outside administrator or practitioner.

Arkansas Principal Licensure
The School Superintendent Assessment (SSA) must be taken by all candidates seeking superintendent licensure for school district director or supervisor. The exam must be taken during the last semester of the program of study and must attain a passing score to apply for the Superintendent license. A candidate not meeting this score has up to three years from the date of program completion to obtain the required score. The candidate must have completed four years of teaching to qualify for initial license.
