The Institute for Chief Data Officers at University of Arkansas at Little Rock was established to collaborate with other universities and organizations to conduct research and develop training to meet the needs of the growing community of Chief Data Officers (CDOs) in government and industry. As organizations have come to recognize that data and information are among their most valuable assets, the role of CDO has begun to emerge as a new C-level role charged with overseeing the strategy for maximizing the value of this strategic asset.
According to technology research company Gartner, the race to drive competitive advantage and improved efficiency through better use of information assets is leading to a sharp rise in the number of chief data officers. Gartner Research estimated that 90 percent of large organizations will have a Chief Data Officer by 2019.
