Donaghey Scholars Awarded SURF Grants

Donaghey Scholars Saad Azam and Kari Payton have been awarded Statewide Undergraduate Research Fellowships.The Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program is designed to allow undergraduate students to conduct in-depth research projects in their specific fields of study with the assistance of faculty mentors.

919766_10200777754621367_687896819_oSaad Azam, a fourth year Donaghey Scholar, is pursing a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Bachelor of Science in Biology. His project, “Novel Doped Porous Carbon for Fuel Cell Application” will be supervised by Dr. Tito Viswanathan at UALR. The research will build on work that Azam started during a 2013 summer internship with the Jet Propulsion Lab in California.


Kari Payton, a second year Donaghey Scholar, is pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Systems and Mechanical Engineering. Her project, “Efficient Algorithms for Cognitive Radio Spectrum Sensing in TV White Space” will  be supervised by Dr. Seshadri Mohan.
