Computer Support Specialist

Job Description: The Computer Support Specialist is responsible for a wide range of activities related

to computer support such as the implementation, maintenance, and utilization of microcomputer and

mainframe systems. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

The position is supervised by the Coordinator of Administrative Computing and is responsible providing

statistical reports, compiling institutional data for internal and external reporting, and work with a

small to medium sized support staff. Successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with software

support functions as well as analyze computer support system problems, designing/implementing

business processes and suggesting corrective measures for system problems.

Minimal Qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in computer science,

computer applications, mathematics, or a related field; plus two years of experience in computer

support; OR Completion of technical training in computer science, data processing, or a related field

acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting plus four years’ experience in computer

support.

Preferred Qualifications: 3-5 years of experience with an enterprise level information system, ability

to work in a confidential environment, solid work history indicating increased progression and

responsibility, excellent work ethic and effective communication skills. Ability to read and interpret

technical literature and evaluate product recommendations are necessary. Experience in Microsoft SQL

database programming and PHP scripting language preferred; knowledge of Ellucian Colleague software;

experience using enterprise reporting software; knowledge of business processes in student records,

and business services records. Other job related education and or experience may be substituted for all

or part of these basic requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.

Salary: Grade C119 on State Pay Plan; Entry: $35,554; Mid-Point: $49,067. This is an exempt position.

Benefits: Southeast Arkansas College provides 11 holidays, 12 days of sick leave, and 12 days of

annual vacation leave each year. The College offers a choice of retirement plan options with employer

contributions ranging from 10% to 14% depending upon the plan selected. The College also provides a

tuition waiver for the employee and dependents.
