Assessment

An Important Message for English Majors in their Senior Year

When you complete 24 hours towards the English major, you will be asked to cooperate in assessing the strength of the education you received from this department by taking the one-credit capstone course English 4199 and by compiling a portfolio of your work during this course. English 4199 is offered in the fall and spring semesters. Your advisor can tell you when you should take this course, but generally you should be in your senior year.

Assessment: A State Requirement

Recently, the Arkansas legislature established a policy that all academic programs must assess the learning of their students. Consequently departments have constructed procedures by which their majors may demonstrate what they have learned and how they have learned it. You are required to provide this assessment.

The Goal of Assessment

Be clear that the English department and its programs are being assessed, not you.

Your assessment of our program will give us an opportunity to enhance our strengths and address our weakness. Not incidentally, your assessment will be a factor in the distribution of university funds to our department.
