Lady Trojans improve to 10-0 in SBC

The Lady Trojans won their 13th consecutive game and remained undefeated in conference play defeating the Louisiana-Lafayette Lady Ragin’ Cajuns 57-52 on Saturday, Feb. 5 in Lafayette, La.

Senior guard Asriel Rolfe led the Trojans with 18 points on 6-9 shooting, including 4-7 from 3-point range. Junior forward Marian Kursh scored 12 points (8-9 free throws) and pulled down five rebounds.

Senior guard Chastity Reed continued her shooting struggles scoring 11 points, while going 5-16 (31 percent) from the field. Reed tied freshman forward Hannah Fohne for the team lead in rebounds with six.

Trailing 17-15 with 6:25 remaining in the first half, the Trojans (16-5, 10-0 SBC) went on an 11-0 run the next three minutes and led 26-21 at the half.

With 48 seconds left in the game, D’Mya Clay scored a layup for Lafayette (10-3, 3-7) to make it a 1-point Trojans lead at 53-52. Senior guard Shanika Butler and Kursh combined to hit 4-4 free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory. Butler had eight assists to lead the Trojans.

Ragin’ Cajuns’ junior forward Mercedes Johnson scored 17 points and had 15 rebounds.

The Trojans play North Texas at 5:15 on Thursday, Feb. 10 at the Jack Stephens Center.
