Trail of Tears Update

The Trail of Tears Park is the first step in the creation of the Coleman Creek Greenway. This 47-acre development is the largest de-urbanization project in Arkansas history stretching from Asher Avenue down to 19th Street along Coleman Creek creating a nature trail through the entire campus. Dedicated, and named, for the old Southwest Trail, a route that has been traveled since pre-European settlement, the Trail of Tears Park lies approximately along the path the displaced Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes took to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma).

Currently, facilities management is putting down sod and planting shrubs, as well as adding trees. By the time the park is completed this spring, historical markers will be installed, highlighting the Circle of Life walkway in the 4.5-acre park. The park sits on the corner of Asher Avenue and Campus Drive.
