Letter to the Editor: Parents’ Day
I commend UALR for holding their first annual Parents’ Day. Although I am currently a non-traditional student, I was once an 18-year-old college freshmen who lived and went to school three hours from mom and dad. I know how the first year away can be a major life change and numerous students do not adjust and have a hard time. As several schools conduct their Parents’ Day around a football game, I feel that is a really good thing that UALR is doing with their Parents’ Day, since there is not a football team here. Holding it around the middle of the fall semester was good planning. Since there is no fall break until Thanksgiving, numerous students don’t have an opportunity to go home on the weekend. I hope this becomes an annual event and continues to be held for many years to come.
