A career as a music educator offers a unique opportunity for musicians to use their talent and expertise in meaningful ways.  As a music teacher, you will be using your artistic talent and academic preparation to make a difference in the lives of our youth.

Music Education at UALR

Music Education at UALR is a rigorous degree program that combines the best of both worlds – the study of music and the art of teaching.  We want our best musicians and students to become the teachers of tomorrow. To accomplish that goal our program focuses on helping our students develop the skills, knowledge, and disposition necessary to become outstanding musicians and inspiring teachers.

Students in the music education program work closely with outstanding faculty members as part of their program. The music department faculty comprises a diverse and talented group of regional and national experts with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and community service. Our faculty members are active performers, teachers, researchers and scholars.

The BA in Music Education is designed to prepare students for careers in music education and leads to teaching licensure. Upon graduation, you may choose to teach in either a public or private school, or you may choose to work as a performer, private music teacher, church musician, or community ensemble director.

Students at UALR study with nationally acclaimed music teachers, frequently attend world-class music events, and make important connections to area K-12 schools. The Music Education department has an active student chapter of NAfME, which is designed to support all music students as they work towards licensure. The music department awards a number of scholarships annually in support of music education. Your work at UALR will prepare you for the challenging yet rewarding career as a music educator.
