Edward Crafts, Associate Professor, Department of Music
Edward Crafts is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of the UALR Opera Theater. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music (B.M.) and Indiana University (M.S.M.). He has had a 30-year performing career with many of the world’s leading musical organizations. Since coming to UALR in 2006, his research has focused on the creation of English-language translations of opera librettos in foreign languages. In 2008, UALR performed the world premiere of his translation from the original Italian of Respighi’s La Bella Dormente nel Bosco, and in 2010 the Opera Theater premiered his modernized translation from the German Urtext of Mozart’s Die Zauberfloete. He also has written a new translation of the Italian recitatives to Paisiello’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, performed by UALR Opera Theater in 2006.
