Dr. Rolf T. Wigand

Rolf Wigand is the Maulden-Entergy Chair and Distinguished Professor of Information Science and Management at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He is the past director of the Center for Digital Commerce and the Graduate Program in Information Management at Syracuse University.Wigand is a researcher, consultant and speaker in information management, electronic commerce, the development of IT standards, and the strategic deployment of information and communication technology. His research interests lie at the intersection of information and communication business issues, the role of newer information technologies and their strategic alignment within business and industry. Most recent and current NSF-funded research has focused on the global impact of electronic commerce in ten nations, the impact of electronic commerce on the real estate and mortgage industries, IT standards development in the mortgage, automotive supply and retail industries, as well as virtual organizations and hot trust, leadership, and newer organizational forms develop. Wigand has taught on the faculty of Syracuse University, the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, Stuttgart Institute of Management and Technology, University of Bayreuth, Arizona State University, Michigan State University, Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico City; and the University of Munich. Some of his research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Volkswagen Foundation, the International Social Science Council, Rome Laboratory, and other funding agencies. He has consulted for IBM, ALCATEL, Siemens AG, MITI-Japan, Rockwell International, AT&T, Honeywell, U-HAUL International, Equitable General Insurance Company, Motorola, Anderson Clayton, Ford World Headquarters, Chase Manhattan Bank, Herman Miller, Banco Nacional de México, and others. He holds editorial positions with such journals as: The Information Society, Electronic Markets, Communications of the AIS, Journal of Internet Banking and Commerce, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems and e-Business Management, Communications: European Journal of Communication Research, and Transnational Data and Communications Report. He is an editorial board and review member of over 40 academic and professional journals, book series and yearbooks. Wigand is the author of four books and over 110 articles, book chapters, and monographs. He has his Ph.D. from Michigan State University in Organizational Communication and was elected to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi. In 2003 he held the Ludwig Erhard Foundation Distinguished Visiting Professorship at the University of Bayreuth, Bayreuth, Germany.
