In an effort to increase research data on elder crime, the UALR Senior Justice Center in connection with Healing Place Ministries, would administer the Center’s Arkansas Senior Citizen Crime Survey to elderly within two Arkansas counties: Pulaski and Jefferson.

Elder Abuse Grant 2005-2006

Would have support efforts to educate stakeholders within Arkansas associated with senior citizens in order to address abuse of the elderly and especially sexual abuse. Would use a management committee to facilitate regional training within Arkansas focused on both law enforcement and elderly advocacy organizations.

FHIP Private Enforcement Initiative Grant 2005-2006
US Department of Housing and Urban Development
Would support discrimination testing for the entire state of Arkansas to identify possible violations of fair housing law. Discrimination categories would include, age, race/ethnicity, persons with disabilities, and Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Community University Partnership Grant 2005
University of Arkansas at Little Rock supported start-up of the UALR Senior Justice Center; including intern stipends, community seminars, and Hotline creation.

Contracts

Healthcare Fraud in the Arkansas Delta Research Project 2008-2010

US Administration on Aging

Ranked top out of six additional contracts granted in the country, the Senior Justice Center in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Human Services - Senior Medicare Fraud Patrol (Arkansas SMP) and Tri-County Rural Health Network will work on a 2-year pilot project which will study the senior population in the Arkansas Delta (Lee, Monroe, St. Francis and Phillips Counties) by focus groups and interviews.  The purpose of this project is to identify the most desired and appropriate methods of information dispersal to the studied population.  The Senior Justice Center has been awarded a contractual pledge for $160,000 of $200,000 in federal grant money for operations in completing this project.  [Awarded]

Implementation of training for all APS case workers 2007-2008

Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services, Division on Aging, Adult Protective Services
The Senior Justice Center in partnership with the UALR Center for the Study of Environmental Criminology would facilitate all training using the material created for APS in a previous contract and work directly with each trainee and supervisor online.

The Senior Justice Center in partnership with the UALR Center for the Study of Environmental Criminology and Partners for Inclusive Communities, created the training material used to orient all new APS employees and to facilitate administration of training via WebCT (online).

Hotline Referral Contract, 2006
Arkansas Senior Medicare/ Medicaid Fraud Patrol [ASMP]
To facilitate the management of calls made to the Arkansas Senior Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Patrol Unit’s hotline which would be transferred to the UALR Senior Justice Center Hotline. The calls would be handled by Senior Justice Center interns for possible prosecution by law enforcement.
