UALR Dance Program
DANCE AUDITIONS
- Placement and Scholarships
The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance at UALR offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance. The B.F.A. degree in dance is a professional degree offering students an education in dance technique, choreography, and dance theory. UALR is the first and only institution in the State of Arkansas to offer such a degree.
Although there is currently NO AUDITION REQUIRED TO ENTER the dance program, all students interested in Dance at UALR must audition for placement in technique classes. Students interested in being considered for departmental scholarships must also submit scholarship application materials (see below) and take part in a scholarship interview. NOTE: The audition and scholarship application materials are required for new AND returning students interested in scholarships.
NOTE: LATE AUDITIONS (PLACEMENT ONLY) FOR FALL 2012 WILL BE HELD ON TWO DATES:
Saturday, June 9, 2012, 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Monday, August 20, 2012, 10:00-11:00 a.m.
Please CLICK HERE to email Stephanie Thibeault and register for one of these audition days.
DANCE AUDITIONS (for technique class placement, and for scholarships) will be held as part of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance scholarship audition day, February 3, 2012. This is an excellent opportunity to take class with our faculty, learn about the B.F.A. degree in Dance Performance, receive placement for Fall technique classes, and be considered for a dance scholarship for Fall 2012. You do not need to prepare a piece for this audition. You will be observed in the technique class setting. All dance classes will be held in Studio 129 in the Center for Performing Arts (which also houses the University Theatre, on the South end of campus.) The schedule for prospective dance students is as follows:
9:00-12noon = Interviews (contact Stacy Pendergraft to schedule)
12:30-2:00 = Auditions
2:00-2:30 = Informational Session
ATTIRE FOR DANCE AUDITIONS: Fitted dancewear required for all dancers. (NO baggy clothes or cover-ups.) Specific requirements include:
Women: Unitard; or dark solid-colored leotard with black footless tights. Bare feet for modern class; soft ballet shoes for ballet class.
Men: Unitard; or black fitted t-shirt (or tank) with black footless tights (leggings). Bare feet for modern class; soft ballet shoes for ballet class.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Please contact Stacy Pendergraft ( 501-371-7619 or smpendergraf@ualr.edu ) to register for the audition day.
*Those students interested in applying for departmental scholarships will be scheduled for an interview with the faculty.
Please submit the following scholarship application materials by Feb 1*:
1) completed scholarship application form (CLICK HERE for form)
2) brief resumé
3) official academic transcript
4) one letter of recommendation**
5) a personal letter stating your educational goals
* - Also bring a copy of all materials with you to the interview.
**Current students who are already on departmental scholarship do not need letters of recommendation. Current UALR students who are just now interviewing need a letter from someone who knows their abilities. That can be someone from a studio or a UALR dance faculty member.
Students must have applied to UALR to be considered for scholarships. (APPLY TO UALR NOW!)
You must be a declared major to receive departmental scholarship funds. Indicate DANCE as your intended major when you apply, then DECLARE DANCE as your major once you are accepted.
We look forward to seeing you in our studios this February!
PLEASE NOTE: If you miss the February audition date, you can still join us in the Fall! (You could apply for departmental scholarships the following year.) Contact Stephanie Thibeault to schedule a campus visit and placement audition. |
