UALR Dance Program

The Dance Program is a vital part of the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, which offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance. The B.F.A. degree in dance is a professional degree offering students an education in dance technique, choreography, and dance theory.  UALR is the first and only institution in the State of Arkansas to offer such a degree. 

The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance offers a wide array of dance courses. Along with intensive training in Modern Dance and Ballet, students study Jazz, Tap, Improvisation, and Choreography. Our majors also have the opportunity to be exposed to many other styles of dance at UALR, including Hip-Hop and Musical Theatre Dance.  Courses in Dance History, Music, Kinesiology, Performance, Production, and Technology help to give the dance student a complete education and prepare the dancer for the demands of a professional career in dance.  

Dancers at UALR have many performing opportunities. The Dance Program presents two main-stage concerts each year.  In addition to these concerts, students will have numerous other opportunities to perform, including informal studio showings, student-produced events, and community performances.   Eager and talented dancers are flocking to the program, creating an atmosphere of energy and excitement that is already proving to be contagious. As the program builds, more advanced levels of dance technique classes will be offered, but new dancers will always be welcome to start with beginning-level technique courses and develop their dance technique to their full potential. Experienced dancers and new dancers-in-training are encouraged to dance side-by-side in productions and appropriate-level dance technique classes, creating a welcoming atmosphere where dance is celebrated and shared by all who love it.
