Former Marine to address reintegration issues for military Wednesday

Former British Royal Marine Chris Pretty will address the issues of reintegrating military personnel into society at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in UALR’s Student Services Center Auditorium.

The talk, “Dead People Walking: Why My Brother Went to Afghanistan and Came Back a Different Person,” is free and open to the public.

Chris PrettyPretty’s talk is based loosely on his own journey through the military system (and beyond) and will include current research in the subject.

Pretty is passionate about the failure of society to recognize the distinct job skills individuals possess following military service.

He warns potential audience members that he will be animated, so attendees are advised to bring a sense of humor to the talk.

His passions are driven by the question “Why do our brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, etc. go to war and come back different people who won’t talk about what happened to them?”

The UALR Office of Veterans Affairs and (SAM), a new student organization for veterans, spouses, and dependents, are co-sponsoring the talk.
