With the help of 25 students and several staff members, the UALR Facilities Management Department identified areas for improvement during its annual exterior lighting walk Tuesday, Nov. 12.
The goal of the annual campus tour is to identify exterior lighting deficiencies such as burned out light bulbs, areas where additional light fixtures are needed and find areas where trees and shrubs need to be pruned.
This year, of the 1,681 exterior lights on campus, 68, or about 4 percent, required attention. In several other areas, the group noticed that tree limbs and shrubbery reduced visibility, so additional lighting fixtures will be placed in these locations in the future.
In addition to the 25 students who participated in the walk, volunteers from all areas of the UALR campus participated including two campus police officers, staff members from residence life and the Donaghey Student Center led by Dr. Logan Hampton, vice provost for student affairs, and 10 staff members from Facilities Management.
While the annual inspection of all campus lighting provides critical information to help maintain high levels of campus safety and comfort, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to report areas of concern at anytime.
