Step 1: Obtain Faculty Approval to Enroll
You must receive approval from your Co-Op instructor before enrolling in the Cooperative Education (Co-Op) course. This approval confirms that the Co-Op experience aligns with your academic program and degree requirements.

Step 2: Enroll in the Cooperative Education Course
Once faculty approval is received, enroll in the Co-Op course through your student account. Enrollment confirms your participation for the selected semester or term.

Step 3: Schedule a Required Virtual Appointment
After enrolling, schedule your required virtual appointment with Michelle Marshall, Cooperative Education Coordinator, through (click link) Handshake. This meeting reviews the syllabus, timelines, and next steps for your Co-Op experience.

Step 4: Access and Begin the Handshake Experience
At your meeting, the Cooperative Education Coordinator will provide information regarding access to the Co-Op Experience in Handshake.

Once access is granted:

  • You will receive email notifications from Handshake to begin the secondary approval process.
  • You must review the Co-Op syllabus and complete the required approval steps within the Handshake Experience.

What Is a Handshake Experience?

The Handshake Experience is the system used to manage and track your Co-Op participation. It includes:

  • Required Forms and Approvals
  • Student Assignments
  • Employer Evaluations

Handshake allows University Career Services, faculty, and employers to monitor progress while keeping all required documentation in one place.
