The College of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Education (CHASSE) is home to the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.). The B.A.S. is an interdisciplinary degree, which means students will reap the benefit of taking classes that are designed to provide a seamless transition from technical fields to an appropriate bachelor’s degree program.
The B.A.S. is a degree-completion program. Students pursuing the B.A.S. must have earned an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) from a regionally-accredited college or university, or 40 hours of technical military credits. The proposed degree program is designed for students who desire to enhance their knowledge, analytical abilities and critical thinking skills for upward mobility in their field.

In order to graduate with the Bachelor of Applied Science degree, students must complete a minimum of 120 total hours, 45 upper-level hours, and 30 hours in residence. Make sure you talk with the BAS Advisor about elective courses.
In order to graduate with the Bachelor of Applied Science degree, students will not be required to have a minor. However, students are welcome to select any of the minor programs available at UA Little Rock. To declare a minor, contact your advisor to let them know.
- This degree like all bachelors degrees at UA Little Rock requires the completion of 45 upper level hours. The courses required in the major only total 36 hours, so most students (but not all) will need an extra 9 hours of Unrestricted Upper Level (3000-4999) courses. Speak with the BAS Advisor to learn more about this requirement.
- ACOM 1300, Introduction to Communication is a pre-requisite to the ACOM 3330, Professional Communication course which is required for the Bachelor of Applied Science. Work with your advisor for more information about this course.
- MGMT 3300, Principles of Management is the pre-requisite to most other MGMT Upper Level courses. Make sure you enroll in MGMT 3300 before MGMT 3340 in the degree. MGMT 3300 also has a pre-requisite of Junior level status.
- MGMT 3320, Human Resources Development does NOT have a pre-requisite of MGMT 3300, Principles of Management so you can enroll in this as long as you are at Junior level.
- A Second Language Proficiency is not required with this degree.
- This degree is limited to students who have not achieved a baccalaureate degree in the past. Therefore, Post-Baccalaureate students cannot pursue this degree program.
- Students cannot add multiple majors, i.e. double-majors, with any other degree program besides the Bachelor of Applied Science at UA Little Rock.
- All Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees and military transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions upon entry to the university.
- Students needing to post technical or military credit can submit a Request to Receive Credit for Technical and/or Military Credit to Louis Scivally in order to add needed technical or military credits to their transcript.
- In the Fall of 2017, the Department of Speech Communication (SPCH) changed their department name in the class search to the Department of Applied Communication (ACOM). They have also changed some of the names of courses. For questions, contact your academic advisor.
