Headshot of Dr. Moon

Dr. Haley Moon is an Assistant Professor in the School of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She earned her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Wyoming, with a concentration in Psychology and Law and a minor in Statistics. During her time there, she served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Project Director on a National Institute of Justice–funded research grant. She also holds an M.S. in Clinical Psychology and B.S. in Psychology from Fort Hays State University. Broadly speaking, Dr. Moon’s research sits at the intersection of psychology and criminal justice, with a central focus on the treatment of vulnerable defendants, both in the courtroom and community setting. Her work has been published in journals such as Criminal Justice Policy Review, Psychiatry, Psychology and Law, and Policing: An International Journal.

Dr. Moon’s research program is strongly shaped by her clinical and community-based experience. In practice, she worked extensively with high-risk, typically justice-involved youth placed at a psychiatric residential treatment facility, conducting psychological evaluations, juvenile risk assessments, and group therapy. This work provided her with a grounded understanding of the intersection between the mental health and legal system, which continues to inform her applied research with sentencing authorities. Additionally, Dr. Moon collaborates closely with law enforcement, public health systems, and stakeholders to better serve at-risk community members. Her work evaluating a renowned co-responder model has reinforced her commitment to producing research that is both theoretically rigorous and attuned to the practical needs of frontline responders, particularly in efforts to support marginalized and minoritized individuals disproportionately impacted by the legal system. In her free time, Dr. Moon enjoys quality time with her husband, daughter, and dogs, tackling home renovation projects (whether necessary or not), and cheering on the KC Chiefs!
