
Dr. Taylor Tolles has been an Assistant Professor in the School of Criminal Justice and Criminology (SCJC) since Fall 2025. Taylor, a veteran of the Ohio Army National Guard, earned his PhD in Sociology with a focus in Criminology from Bowling Green State University, following earning his MA in Sociology from the University of Louisville. For his dissertation, Taylor examined the influence of legal socialization on adolescent firearm violence using a procedural justice framework. Taylor is trained in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and specializes in structural equation modeling and other forms of latent construction. His primary research interests revolve around the relationship between military and law enforcement socialization and substance misuse and mental health. He has done original data collection with both of these special populations with the intent of addressing the structural and social barriers to prosocial coping resources.
