Health Services, Disability Resource Center, the Alliance, and faculty members from UALR and UAMS joined forces to establish the Safe Zone committee. The mission of Safe Zone is to improve the overall campus climate and to educate students, staff, and faculty about issues related to LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) individuals.
A training program was developed for those wanting to become Safe Zone Allies. Persons displaying the Safe Zone sticker have completed the training and made a commitment to be supportive of and knowledgeable about LGBT identities and issues.
A request was submitted to the Chancellor asking that the Safe Zone committee be recognized as an official UALR committee. The request was approved allowing committee members to work on Safe Zone during regular business hours.
