Campus-Wide Security Enhancement for Wired Ethernet Ports

The IT Services Networks and Systems Teams are undertaking a campus-wide initiative to bolster device and endpoint security on all wired Ethernet ports. The deployment began on November 19, 2024 with IT Services (TRB) and Distributed IT employees, and will be followed by a phased rollout across the entire campus.

Understanding 802.1X:

  • What is 802.1X?
IEEE 802.1X is an IEEE standard that verifies the identity of users and devices trying to connect to a wired network similar to using credentials to connect to a wireless network.
  • Purpose:
It aims to prevent unauthorized devices from accessing the network.

Impact on Users:

  • University-Owned Devices:
These devices should already be configured for 802.1X, so no action is required on your part.
  • Personal Devices:
You may need to configure your personal devices to connect to the wired Ethernet network. (Refer to the links below for guidance.)
