Faculty Committees and Service

Professor Robert Steinbuch has been appointed to the newly created Arkansas Freedom of Information Task Force, which is in charge of making recommendations on bills that would affect the state public records and open meetings law. The group will advise whether legislators should approve the bills, revise them or kill them.

The AALS Section on Balance in Legal Education appointed Professor Deborah L. Borman to a three year term on the Executive Board.

Professor Sullivan testified as an expert witness called by the defense in Randy William Gay v. State of Arkansas on December 6-7th, 2018, in Garland County Circuit Court.  He testified concerning his findings and opinion that trial counsel’s performance in the sentencing of this capital defendant–who was sentenced to death–was ineffective.

Professor Deborah L. Borman has been appointed faculty liaison to the Henry Woods Inn of Court for the 2018-19 term. She attended first monthly meeting at the Little Rock Club on Tuesday September 11, 2018.

Professor andré douglas pond cummings has been appointed by Chancellor Rogerson to serve on the Chancellor’s Diversity Council at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for the 2018-2020 term.

May v. Ryan, amicus curiae brief on behalf of National Association for Rational Sexual Offense Laws, No. 17-15603, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (blank). He argued in support of the habeas court’s decision finding that the Arizona statute impermissibly imposed the burden to disprove criminal intent on the accused.

Kenneth S. Gallant, who retired as Ben J. Altheimer Distinguished Professor after Spring Semester 2018, was granted Emeritus status by the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees.
