The Society for Human Resource Management, the world’s largest human resources association, awarded a 2016-17 Merit Award designation for the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s student chapter for providing superior growth and development opportunities for its student members. 

“These chapters truly represent the future of the HR profession,” said Susan Post, the society’s east divisional director and the lead for student programs. “Their achievements go above and beyond their everyday academic and work commitments, and we applaud the positive impact their efforts have on their schools, their local communities, and beyond.”

The merit award program was created in 1972 to encourage ongoing excellence in the following areas: student chapter requirements, chapter operations, chapter programming and professional development of members, support of the human resource profession, and engagement.

The merit award is based on the number of activities student chapters completed during the award cycle from April 1, 2016, to March 31, 2017.

The UA Little Rock Human Resource Management Society, which is open to all majors, offers students the opportunity for professional development and to network with human resources professionals. The faculty adviser is Dr. Susie Cox in the Department of Management.

The society is affiliated with the Central Arkansas Human Resource Association as well as with the national Society for Human Resource Management.
