Local artists to be featured in 32nd annual Songwriters Showcase

University of Arkansas at Little Rock

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s  Department of Music invites the campus and community to enjoy the unique sounds of students and local composers during its 32nd annual Songwriters Showcase on Friday, Oct. 20.

The free event will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall of the Fine Arts Building.

This year’s special guest will be The Shadow Ensemble, a group originally configured in Northwest Arkansas, that’s known for its compelling, one-of-a-kind sound. Its musical arrangements, inspired by early horror, suspense, and science fiction films, feature a combination of acoustic instruments, vintage electronic hardware, and sonic novelties.

Members of The Shadow Ensemble include Ryan Cockerham, conductor and violinist; Jake Henbest, synthesizer, vocalist, and percussionist; Jordan Seres, keyboardist, synthesizer, and vocalist; Alicia Contreras, wind instrumentalist; and Nery Rivas, electric guitar player and percussionist.

Parking will be available in Lot 8 behind the UA Little Rock Fine Arts Building.
