Several University of Arkansas at Little Rock students and faculty members from the School of Social Work were honored at the National Association of Social Workers Arkansas Annual Conference.

The 39th annual conference was held March 28-30 at the Little Rock Marriott and celebrated social workers on the “Frontiers of Change” happening at the local, state, and national level.

Three faculty members of the UA Little Rock School of Social Work were honored with the Golden Leaf Award: Elizabeth Fowler, field coordinator for the Master of Social Work program; Kelly Moore, an instructor; and Ruth Fissel, and adjunct instructor.

The Golden Leaf Award is granted to those who have demonstrated efforts to recruit new members, promoted involvement with the local community outside of branch members, participated in the organization’s annual service project, and supported and participated in the chapter’s special programs.

In undergraduate student awards, Cynthia Wyman won the award for the best student poster in program/intervention by a Bachelor of Social Work student for her poster, “Intellectual and Hungry: Assessing Food Insecurity.”

Meanwhile, Patti Bruno, Brenda Martinez, Abby Stoyer, and Hailey Washam won the award for the best student poster in public policy for their poster on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s (SNAP) impact on food pantries.

Additionally, UA Little Rock also won the competition for having the largest percentage increase in new student members for 2018.
