Looking for an engaging summer program to keep a motivated student academically challenged, or interested in having a student explore a new interest?  The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is hosting a variety of summer camps in musical theatre, writing, robotics, athletics, advanced placement preparation, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Summer Laureate University for Youth (SLUFY) for gifted and talented students. VEX IQ for beginners Dates: Session 1: June 24-28, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dates: Session 2: June 24-28, 1 to 4 p.m. Grades: 3-8 This camp will be centered around the VEX IQ robotics kit used by many schools in Arkansas. This camp will focus on introducing students to VEX IQ robotics components, programming methods, and construction techniques. Girl Powered VEX EDR Dates: July 8-12, 1 to 4 p.m. Grades: Girls 6-12 The purpose of VEX Girl Powered camp is to encourage new experiences, a diverse culture, and a more encompassing definition of what a roboticist looks like. In an effort to encourage more middle school and high school girls to participate in robotics, this camp is a girls-only session. VEX EDR Dates: July 15-19, 1 to 4 p.m. Grades 6-12 This camp explores the worlds of engineering, robotics, and coding with the VEX Robotics Design System. Students get hands-on experience building a frame and base for the robot and engineer its wiring. Teams must adapt their robots to compete in user-piloted challenges and obstacle courses as well as autonomous robot challenges requiring programming using the ROBOTC software. VEX IQ – Advanced session Dates: Session 1: July 8-12, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Dates: Session 2: July 15-19, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Grades: 3-8 This camp is for students already familiar with VEX IQ robotics, either through their school, last year’s camp, or by attending Sessions 1 or 2. This camp will focus on advanced building and programming strategies, including the use of sensors.
