UA Little Rock to host Pacifica Quartet Nov. 14
The world-renowned Pacifica Quartet will perform at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Thursday, Nov. 14.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building on the UA Little Rock campus. A complimentary reception of hors d’oeuvres and wine will follow the concert. The UA Little Rock Department of Music and the Chamber Music Society of Little Rock sponsored the event.
The ensemble will deliver an inspired performance, including Mendelssohn’s Quartet in F minor, Op. 80; Shulamit Ran’s Quartet No. 3, “Glitter, Doom, Shards, Memory;” and Beethoven’s Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 130, with Große Fuge , Op. 133.
Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant performance style, and often-daring repertory choices, the Pacifica Quartet has achieved international recognition over the past 25 years as one of the finest chamber ensembles performing today. The Pacifica Quartet has carved a niche for itself as the preeminent interpreter of string quartet cycles, harnessing the group’s singular focus and incredible stamina to portray each composer’s evolution.
The members of the Pacifica Quartet live in Bloomington, Indiana, where they serve as quartet-in-residence and full-time faculty members at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Prior to their appointment, the Quartet was on the faculty of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana from 2003 to 2012, and also served as resident performing artist at the University of Chicago for 17 years.
General admission tickets are $25 each. College students can attend the concert for free. Tickets and free passes can be reserved online at the Chamber Music Society’s website.
