Korea Native Performs Piano Recital Feb. 10

The UALR Department of Music will present a guest recital by pianist Dr. Sae-Hee Kim at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building.

A native of Korea, Kim earned her bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University, her master’s degree from Indiana University, a professional studies certificate from the Manhattan School of Music, and her doctorate from the University of Hartford.

She made her concerto debut at the age of 14, performing the “Saint-Saens Second Piano Concerto” with the Busan Symphony Orchestra in Korea. Since then, she has appeared with orchestras such as IU Symphony Orchestra, Kankakee Symphony Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and the Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra. She has also worked with conductors Joseph Silverstein, Keith Brown, and Christopher Zimmerman.

An avid chamber musician, Kim has collaborated with various instrumentalists and chamber groups including the Emerson String Quartet. In 2005 she released her first CD on the SeoulRecords label. Currently, she is an associate professor at Seoul Jangsin University in Korea where she teaches studio piano and piano literature.
