Visiting artist Bonnie Montgomery, author of a modern folk opera about Bill Clinton’s early life, will perform at the spring Songwriter’s Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building.

Montgomery is an Arkansas native with a performance repertoire that showcases both her classical opera training and her honky-tonk roots. She has written a modern folk opera, “Billy Blythe,” about President Bill Clinton’s youth that blends these two genres.

Montgomery has appeared on MSNBC, in The New Yorker, the Huffington Post, the New York Observer, and Time magazine.

The program for Montgomery’s performance, “An Evening of Art Song and Arias,” will include “A Greek Beginning” and “Death Row Love and Marriage” from the art song cycle “West Memphis Three.” Other pieces include “Enoch Arrives,” “High Noon” (from Montgomery’s “Billy Blythe”), “Spill,” “Cut You a Check for Your Time,” and “Recession Song.”
