Another academic year kicks into high gear with Welcome Week
It’s the start of another school year, and UALR Office of Campus Life officials have planned an assortment of activities to make all incoming freshmen and returning students feel welcome.
UALR’s Trojan Daze is a full slate of fall Welcome Week festivities that lasts from the first day of move-in, Wednesday, Aug. 14, and extends through the end of the first week of classes, Friday, Aug. 22.
From movie night to casino night to the annual back-to-school picnic, Trojan Daze activities are a great way for students to get involved, renew old friendships, and make new ones.
Just a few highlights include “Dip, Duck, Dive Dodgeball” from 8 to 10 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 14, in the Donaghey Fitness Center; Freshman Convocation at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at University Theatre; and College Survival Skills at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in DSC Ledbetter Hall.
A full schedule may be found at Welcome Week – Trojan Daze. All activities are free.
Being on campus has many perks, including a built-in social setting and academic support from peers, according to the UALR Office of Student Housing.
Hundreds of UALR students have a choice of one of several resident housing options this fall including joining a Living Learning Community where students reside on a floor with others who share their academic goals and interests.
For the 2013-2014 academic year, there are LLCs for students interested in arts and culture, business, nursing, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers, or who want to further explore other majors and careers.
Among the options for on-campus housing are East and West Halls, Commons Apartments, and University Village.
