Donaghey Scholars Program

UALR Art History major Alex Leme of São Paulo, Brazil, has been awarded a Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) to conduct in-depth research in his discipline under the supervision of a faculty member.

Students interested in applying for UALR’s top honors program, the Donaghey Scholars Program, are invited to Sampler Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Legends Room of the Jack Stephens Center. The program includes a scholarship package totaling between $60,000 and $80,000 as well as a chance to study abroad.

From blacksmithing to biology research, UALR’s Donaghey Scholars are spending their summer gaining experience, enriching their lives, and exploring the world.

Bukola Odeniyi, a UALR sophomore majoring in biology and chemistry, won second place in cell biology for her poster at the Emerging Researchers National Conference in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) last month in Atlanta.

Ryne Ramaker, a senior UALR Donaghey Scholar and University Science Scholar with a double major in biology and chemistry, is a co-author of a cancer research paper creating excitement among other researchers.

Tanner Critz began a literal and figurative journey during his senior year as a Donaghey Scholar and anthropology major at UALR in 1995. First, he had to convince his professor that spending six months hiking the Appalachian Trail qualified as research.

Top scholars from across Arkansas will be on UALR’s campus next month for the annual “Sampler Day,” giving the high schoolers a taste of what they can experience in the Donaghey Scholars Program.

Dr. Bryan Alexander, fellow at the National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education and a respected thinker on the future of technology, will deliver the third annual Donaghey Scholars Program Speakers Series lecture Thursday, Sept. 29, in the EIT auditorium.

UALR Donaghey Scholar Ryne Ramaker of Bentonville, a biology and chemistry double major, was recognized with an Honorable Mention for his research on a treatment for a form of liver cancer.
