UALR has joined the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), an association of colleges and universities that is working to create a sustainable future.

Nine UALR faculty and staff members have completed the inaugural class of “Sustainable Systems At Work,” a five-part educational discussion course designed to further organizational sustainability initiatives.

Staff members of the Facilities Management Department in conjunction with the UALR Recycling Committee and the global issues class will conduct vehicle tire pressure checks and collect electronics and other recyclables from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday – Earth Day – April 22, in Parking Lot 15 at Fair Park Avenue and 28th Street.

While most green building projects realize a savings after they’re built, UALR’s new engineering and information technology building got an early break.

Members of the UALR Committee on Sustainability are offering cash prizes to department and offices that are finding unique solutions to making the campus more green.

Michael E. Shepherd, director of UALR’s Office of Purchasing, offers suggestions to make offices more sustainable for this week’s “Speaking of Green” message from the campus’ Sustainability Committee.

Students in UALR’s Sustainable Business Issues course offered by the College of Business’ MBA program are helping businesses to become more sustainable.
