Policy Name: Biological Safety
Policy Number: LR 701.3
Effective Date: September 27, 2024
Policy
In efforts to comply with NIH’s Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules and the CDC’s Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL), the UA at Little Rock campus will maintain a Biological Safety Manual (Manual). The Manual is not intended to be an exhaustive or fully comprehensive reference, but rather a guide for technically qualified individuals. If a topic is not covered in this Manual, requirements expressly written in the NIH’s and CDC’s guidelines, will be applied.
The purpose of this Manual is to provide information on work practices, procedures, and policies necessary to ensure the health and safety of individuals exposed to biohazardous agents in the workplace. The contents of the manual are based on current federal and state workplace safety guidelines and recommendations. Failure to comply with instructions contained in the manual may result in a violation of the regulations, codes, and laws that establish these guidelines and recommendations.
