Policy

In efforts to comply with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) 1910.1450, Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories, the UALR campus will maintain a Laboratory Safety Manual (Manual). The Manual is not intended to be an exhaustive or fully comprehensive reference, but rather a guide for authorized workers or other qualified individuals. If a topic is not covered in this Manual, requirements expressly written in OSHA 1910.1450, will be applied.

The Manual’s purpose is to help departments comply with OSHA standards and to provide to UALR employees with the proper guidelines to prevent laboratory accidents, to create an overall awareness of the hazards in the lab, as well as to offer guidelines for safe work practices. In addition, the Manual will provide requirements designed to ensure that the collective safety and health of students and employees remain of primary importance.
