Lucia Izevbigie Q&A
How did you get started in the University Career Services profession?
I began my journey in Career Services while working with the College of Business Career Services team. I applied through Workday and was selected to support workshop presentations, student and alumni data management, and the student career closet. I enjoyed helping students feel confident and career-ready, so when the opportunity opened to work in University Career Services, I transitioned into my current role. Now, I support resume reviews and manage career closet appointments in Handshake, assist with career fairs and presentations, and help with clothing fittings and merchandise organization. It has been a rewarding
experience to play a small part in students’ professional success
Describe a “typical workday” in University Career Services.
My workday begins at 10:00 a.m., and the first thing I do is check Handshake for new resume review submissions or Career Closet
appointments. If we have closet appointments scheduled, I meet with students to help them select professional attire that aligns with their needs, whether for interviews, presentations, or internships. I also review resumes, provide personalized feedback, and communicate recommendations through Handshake. On days when we host workshops or presentations, I assist with setup, check students in, and help ensure the event runs smoothly. Every day is different, and I enjoy the opportunity to support
students in multiple ways.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Outside of work, I am passionate about community service. I volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. Peter Claver, where we organize food and donation drives to support individuals in need. I am also an active chorister at St. Augustine Catholic Church in North Little Rock, which allows me to connect spiritually through music. In my personal time, I enjoy singing, dancing, and reading novels and journals.
What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?
Pinnacle Mountain in Little Rock has been one of the most interesting places I’ve visited. The hike was both challenging and exciting, and reaching the top to see the breathtaking view was a fulfilling experience. It reminded me of the value of perseverance and taking in the journey along the way.
What do you like best about living in Central Arkansas?
What I appreciate most about living in Central Arkansas is the peace and quiet. The area offers a calm environment, while still being close to opportunities for outdoor adventure, community, and personal growth.
