Oscar Osi Ogedegbe Q&A
How did you get started in the University Career Services profession?
I began my career in this department as a Graduate Assistant. That role gave me valuable hands-on experience right from the start. I’ve found the work incredibly interesting because it connects to several key areas of student success. I assist students in one-on-one appointments, support the Director of Career Services with major career events, and manage Handshake and the Career Services website.
Describe a “typical workday” in University Career Services.
My workday is rarely boring and always full of variety. It usually starts with checking unread emails. After that, I meet with students in the career closet, review résumés, and update Handshake and the Career Services website. I also attend industry insight sessions. It’s a fast-paced environment, but every task supports student success.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
When I step away from the office, I focus on recharging through a mix of activities. I love exploring the local culinary scene in Little Rock and trying new restaurants. I also make time for quiet moments, spending part of my week reading and cooking. Experimenting with new recipes is one of my favorite ways to unwind. During the summer, I stay active by swimming, which helps me relax after a busy week.
What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?
That’s a tough one, but my trips to Seychelles and Jordan definitely stand out. They couldn’t be more different, yet both were unforgettable. Seychelles felt like stepping into paradise—calm, colorful, and full of life. The blend of Creole culture and stunning nature gave the islands such a peaceful charm.
Jordan, on the other hand, was a journey through time. Walking through Petra and experiencing the warmth of the Bedouin people made it truly special.
Whether I was soaking in the history of Jordan or enjoying the beaches and culture of Seychelles, both trips opened my eyes in new ways. That’s what I love most about traveling—it’s not just about seeing new places, but about feeling them. Every experience, from ancient ruins to local meals, stays with you and changes how you see the world.
What do you like best about living in Central Arkansas?
What I appreciate most about Central Arkansas is its strong sense of community and easy pace of life. We enjoy the perks of a growing, vibrant city—great food, arts, and education—without the hassle of long commutes. The people are welcoming, and there’s a genuine spirit of collaboration between local businesses and the university. It all comes together to make this a wonderful place to live and work.
