PEAW 1300 originated in 1977 as PEAW 1100 Human Potential, created for campus survival. The course has evolved into a 3-hour, mandatory course titled PEAW (PErsonal AWareness), First Year Experience 1300 and is now the most commonly enrolled First Year Colloquium (FYC) course.

While academic advisors strongly encourage incoming freshmen to take the course during their first UA Little Rock semester, other students enroll in the course in subsequent semesters due to first semester schedule conflicts, failing the course during the incoming freshmen semester, or realizing that the course is a graduation requirement
