The University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UA Little Rock) Office of Institutional Research and Analytics (OIRA) provides a variety of self-service reports that enable access to important educational data. These reports are intended to support informed decision-making in congruence with generally accepted state and federal definitions. The following definitions are from UA Little Rock and the Arkansas Department of Higher Education (ADHE) and are used on a variety of reports related to enrollment.
- First-Time- In-College (FTIC): The summation of the following three categories. All students have neither transfer credits after their high school graduation date nor enrollment at UA Little Rock after their high school graduation date.
- FTIC without Concurrent Credits: All students who have neither transfer credits from another institution nor credits at UA Little Rock.
- FTIC with Concurrent Credits from UA Little Rock: All students who only have transfer credits that were earned before their high school graduation date from UA Little Rock and other institutions.
- FTIC with Concurrent Credits from other Institutions: All students who only have transfer credits that were earned before their high school graduation date from an institution other than UA Little Rock.
- First-Time Entering Undergraduate Transfer: All students that do not have credits at UA Little Rock (excluding high school concurrent courses) and have transfer credits that were earned beyond their high school graduate date.
- Continuing Undergraduate: All undergraduate students that were enrolled at UA Little Rock in the previous term (excluding summer terms). This group excludes Post-Baccalaureate, Pre-Baccalaureate, and High School Student Concurrent Students.
- Readmitted Undergraduate: All undergraduate students that were enrolled at UA Little Rock but did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms). ADHE requires that students are counted as a readmitted student if the student did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms). NOTE: This definition differs from the UA Little Rock definition, which allows 2 years before readmission to the institution.
- Transient Undergraduate: An undergraduate student who transferred to UA Little Rock for the first-time intending to transfer earned credit back to the institution in which they are regularly enrolled. These students are indicated in BANNER as ‘Visiting’.
- Special Undergraduate: The category is no longer used for official reporting but remains for data quality validation.
- High School Students – Dual Enrolled: High School Concurrent Students that have one or more courses on UA Little Rock’s main campus. This category consolidates with the High School Concurrent category for official reporting purposes.
- Pre-Baccalaureate: Non-high school undergraduate students that are not seeking a degree.
- Post-Baccalaureate: Students that have obtained a baccalaureate degree or higher and are enrolled in undergraduate courses at UA Little Rock.
- First-Time Entering Graduate: All graduate students who have neither previously enrolled in a graduate program at UA Little Rock nor transferred graduate credits from another institution. This category excludes Law and Doctoral students.
- Transfer Graduate: Graduate students that have graduate transfer credits with no prior graduate credits at UA Little Rock. This category excludes Law and Doctoral students.
- Continuing Graduate: All graduate students that enrolled at UA Little Rock for the previous term (excluding summer terms) as a graduate student. This category excludes Law and Doctoral students.
- Readmitted Graduate: All graduate students that were enrolled at UA Little Rock but did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms). ADHE requires that students are counted as a readmitted student if the student did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms). This category excludes Law and Doctoral students.
- Transient Graduate (including Doctoral): A graduate student who transferred to UA Little Rock for the first-time intending to transfer earned credit back to the institution in which they are regularly enrolled. These students are indicated in BANNER as ‘Visiting’. This category excludes Law students.
- Special Graduate: Graduate students that are non-degree seeking, or returning to Graduate School after receiving a Doctoral Degree. The ADHE category is labeled as ‘Unclassified Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Student’. This category excludes Law students.
- First-Time Entering Doctoral: All Doctoral students who have neither previously enrolled in a graduate program at UA Little Rock nor transferred graduate credits from another institution. This category excludes Law students.
- Transfer Doctoral: Doctoral Students that have transfer credits at the graduate level and have not previously enrolled in a doctoral program. This category excludes Law students.
- Continuing Doctoral: All Doctoral students that enrolled at UA Little Rock for the previous term (excluding summer terms) as a Doctoral student. This category excludes Law students.
- Readmitted Doctoral: All Doctoral students that were enrolled at UA Little Rock but did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms). ADHE requires that students are counted as a readmitted student if the student did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms). This category excludes Law students.
- First-Time Entering Law: All Law students who have neither previously enrolled in a Law program at UA Little Rock nor transferred Law credits from another institution.
- Transfer Law: Law students that have transfer credits at the Law level and no previous credits at UA Little Rock at the Law level.
- Continuing Law: All Law students that enrolled at UA Little Rock for the previous term (excluding summer terms) as a Law student.
- Readmitted Law: All Law students that were enrolled at UA Little Rock but did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms). ADHE requires that students are counted as a readmitted student if the student did not attend the previous term (excluding summer terms).
- High School Students – Concurrent: All high school students that do not have enrollment on the main campus at UA Little Rock. This category consolidates with the High School Concurrent category for official reporting purposes.
- Undergraduate Student Classifications: (NOTE: Credit Hours used to determine classification are based on courses taken at UA Little Rock as a high school concurrent or non-high school concurrent student and all credit hours accepted as transfer by UA Little Rock from other institutions.)
- Freshman – A student that has between 0 and 29 credit hours at the undergraduate level.
- Sophomore – A student that has between 30 and 59 credit hours at the undergraduate level.
- Junior – A student that has between 60 and 89 credit hours at the undergraduate level.
- Senior – A student that has more than 90 credit hours at the undergraduate level.
- Admit Status – The admit status of a student into the university. The status is based on the initial admission decision that allows a student to register for classes.
- Conditional Admission – An admission status that requires a student to attend all remedial courses within the first 30 hours. In addition, if you are from a contiguous state, the student is not eligible for the waiver.
- Regular Admission (Non-Conditional Admission) – An admission status that allows the student to register without restrictions.
- Attend Status – The attend status indicates if the student is enrolled either part-time or full-time. A full-time undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student must have a minimum of 12 hours. A full-time graduate student must have a minimum of 9 hours. If the student does not meet the minimum hour requirement, the student is classified as part-time. Law students are classified based on an attribute on their student record, not by hours of registration.
- Student Semester Credit Hours (SSCH) – The summation of credits generated by a student through attended courses. For example, a student taking two courses that award three credits at completion would generate six credit hours. 3+3=6
- Enrollment Funnel Definitions:
- Applicants – Persons that have submitted an application to UA Little Rock. Whether the applicant’s application was denied or accepted, or whether the applicant ultimately attended UA Little Rock are not considered.
- Admitted Applicants – Applicants that have been admitted to UA Little Rock. This is a subset of applicants. Applicants are considered admitted if they have a corresponding application that has a decision from Admissions, and Admissions has not declined the application.
- Enrolled Applicants – Applicants that have enrolled in at least one course at UA Little Rock. This is a subset of admitted applicants.
- Yield Percent – The percentage of admitted applicants that are enrolled applicants (i.e. enrolled applicants divided by admitted applicants).
- Term: A term is defined as a Fall, Spring, or Summer semester. All “Parts-of-Term” are considered for preliminary reporting.
- Census Day: This is the 11th Class Day for Fall and Spring terms or the 5th Class Day for Summer terms. Census day counts do not represent official data. Rather, data collected on census day is scrubbed, which involves review with several offices and OIR, before is submitted to the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. It is only when the data is transmitted to and accepted by the regulatory agency that is official.
- Days Before Census: The count of the total days before a given term’s census day. Census day will be reported as day 0. All days before census will be a positive number and all days after census will be negative.
- Specific Preliminary Report Notes
- University – Headcount and SSCH
- A ‘+’ denotes a percentage headcount or SSCH change from 0 in the prior year to greater than 0 in the current year (e.g. 2018 Spring headcount = 0 and 2019 Spring headcount = 50 then the percentage change displays as a ‘+’)

- Data Quality Findings/Concerns: As OIR continues to update, maintain, and provide new reports, OIR reviews the quality of the data. Below are the current data findings/concerns identified by OIR that are linked to the enrollment reports. NOTE: This is not an exhaustive list. As new findings/concerns are discovered, OIR will update this list.
- The Change of Major/Minor application in BOSS inserts a blank record when an advisor clears a curricula record and then re-adds the same information. This causes issues with reporting curricula level data and causes the Preliminary SSCH report by Department and the Preliminary University SSCH report to reflect different numbers.
- Students missing a primary program are not populated into OIR’s Operational Data Store (ODS) and are therefore not reported on the Preliminary Headcount Report.
- Consortium students are sometimes registered as active in a class, which artificially inflates SSCH and student Headcounts.
- Curricula is not maintained once a program is considered deactivated, or “Sunsetted”. Due to the lack of maintenance, a program might appear in an old college or department.
