The UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law and the UAMS Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health offer a concurrent JD/MPH program. The program allows cross-credit for certain specified courses, offering a potential savings of 24 credit hours in the total credit hours otherwise required for both degrees.
A joint JD/MPH is designed for those seeking a career in a public-health field. The joint degree is ideally suited for public-policy careers in government, advocacy groups, or think tanks. The joint degree provides coursework that will afford participants the ability to address complicated medical, legal, social and economic issues.
If you are interested in this concurrent degree, we recommend that you visit with both programs before applying. You must apply for admission to, and be accepted by, both Bowen Law School and the College of Public Health.
Make an appointment for advising with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs of the Bowen School of Law. Bring your letter of acceptance from the UAMS College of Public Health with you to that meeting.
After advising is complete, you will sign a Declaration of Intent to Pursue Concurrent Degree Programs. That form must be presented to both the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the Bowen School of Law and the Office of Student Affairs of the College of Public Health, signed by each program’s representatives, and filed with each institution.
