Leadership Lecture Series continues

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Applied Communication will host the remaining components of its 2016-17 Leadership Lecture Series from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16 and April 20.

Both lectures will take place in the UA Little Rock Bailey Alumni and Friends Center. There is no fee to participate, although a $15 contribution is requested to cover the cost.

To kick off the first evening, Thursday, Feb. 16,  Dr. Linda Pledger, professor emeritus in the Department of Applied Communication, will be discussing conflict management in her lecture titled “Managing Conflict Positively as a Transformational Leader.”

We seem to live in a world of conflict these days, whether political, personal or professional,” Pledger said. “It is critical that we engage in conversations about how to manage our conflicts more effectively, so that we maintain the dignity and integrity of all involved and find solutions for our most pressing conflicts. These discussions can build stronger relationships in all areas of our lives.

Mary Cantrell, executive director of the Centers for Simulation Education at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, will conclude the April 20 session with her lecture, “Why Yes Works for Leaders.”

Organizers encourage community and business leaders, employees, and UA Little Rock students, faculty, and alumni to attend the series to understand the importance of communication and how it can positively impact the workplace and community.

Background information with suggested readings will be provided for lecture attendees. Participants who attend all lectures in the series, including the first two in the fall of 2016 and the final two in the spring of 2017, will receive a certificate of completion.

Light refreshments will be served. Register for the upcoming lectures here.
